Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to our School Family!  My name is Krista Mayfield and I am excited to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher.  The 2014-2015 school year will be my 13th year of teaching, with experience in both Kindergarten and First Grade.  I began teaching in Madison County (where I was born and raised) and graduated from EKU with degrees in Elementary Education, Child and Families Studies, and as a Reading Specialist.  I'm also a National Board Certified teacher in Early Childhood.  I absolutely love teaching five year olds and watching their growth throughout the school year - it's my passion!  I think of Kindergarten as your child's foundation to education and am devoted to making sure that each of my little "monkeys" climb as high as they can go when they are in my jungle.

Your child needs a solid base so they will become life-long learners that enjoy learning!  Reading is an essential part of my classroom instruction.  Kindergartners are like sponges and absorb much of what they see and hear.  With high expectations and encouragement your child will grow by leaps and bounds!

Please make reading and writing an important time in your home by reading/writing to and with your child.  I look forward to meeting you and working with your child this year.  We have so much to learn and discover in Kindergarten, but we are going to have a lot of fun in the process.  It's going to be a great year!

Ms. Mayfield
